Junior Tennis Teams

Through our racquets program partner, Pass Academy, Tuckahoe offers youth tennis teams for all its members from our littlest members to 18 yrs of age. Developmental and Competitive Teams are available for all age groups. Whether your child is ready to compete or looking to develop their skills, we have a place for them on our team.

Team Structure

Beginning in 2026, Junior Tennis Team practices will be organized primarily by age and level rather than by Competitive vs. Developmental teams.

This new structure allows coaches to:

  • Make better use of court space and coaching resources
  • Group players more effectively during practices
  • Provide ongoing evaluation as players develop throughout the summer

Within each practice, coaches will organize players into small groups based on skill level and ongoing assessment.

Competitive vs. Developmental Players

While practices are combined, coaches will still evaluate players throughout the season to determine competitive or developmental readiness, particularly for match play opportunities.

Competitive Players

Competitive players typically:

  • Play tennis year-round
  • Have competed in USTA, UTR, school, or club matches
  • Have previously participated in Tuckahoe Tysons Cup matches
  • Can serve, rally consistently, and keep score at an age-appropriate level

Competitive players may participate in Tysons Cup matches and NVTL league matches, depending on age group and coach selection. Players may include Red Ball, Orange Ball, Green Dot, and Yellow Ball competitors.

Developmental Players

Developmental players typically:

  • Are newer to tennis or play occasionally
  • Are still building rally and match fundamentals
  • Want additional focus on stroke technique and consistency

Coaches will focus on developing fundamentals and preparing players for intra-squad and scrimmage match play during the season. Many developmental players are 12 & Under, with a large number in the 10 & Under age group.

Match Opportunities

Tuckahoe will continue participating in the Tysons Cup League, which typically holds matches on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. In 2026, Tuckahoe will also participate in the Northern Virginia Tennis League (NVTL), which provides additional match opportunities.

NVTL matches are played on Wednesday mornings and include:

  • 12U
  • 14U
  • 18U divisions

To provide even more match opportunities, the program will include intra-squad match play sessions, especially for developing players and those preparing for league matches.

These sessions will take place on Tuesday and Thursday mornings (9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.). Players will be able to sign up for these sessions week-by-week once the season begins.

Practice Schedule

Practices during the regular season will take place primarily on:

Monday and Friday mornings, and Wednesday evenings

Practices are scheduled by age group. All practices have strict capacity limits due to court availability, so families are encouraged to register early. The full practice schedule is available on the registration page.

Pre-Season Practices

Optional preseason practices will be held May 26 – June 12, 2026 to help players prepare for the season and allow coaches to estimate participation levels. Preseason sign-ups will be available separately.
